Addicted to Twitter - and it's down!
For those of you wondering why I haven't blogged lately, there are two reasons. Firstly, I have been suffering from bloggers block so I decided to take a break and secondly, and even more importantly, I have become addicted to Twitter. It's very easy to post your "tweets" on Twitter especially since you are limited to just 140 characters per tweet but it's definitely addictive!
As I post this right now, Twitter is down* and I can only imagine how many others like myself are going through the torment of wondering when it will be back up again. I can't believe how much I rely on Twitter for gathering news and information as well as sharing my own news and information. Also, it's just a lot of fun to read what people are doing or reading or discussing. It's a bit like going to a party or a pub and eavesdropping on lots of different conversations but you get to join in with any that sound interesting to you and/or start your own "conversation" by tweeting. A "tweet" is a post. Twitter is known as a micro-blogging service and that's exactly what it is, blogging but in micro-sized posts. Since you are limited to 140 characters, you have to be short and sweet. It's a great way to encourage concise writing!
Twitter was actually featured on BBC Newsnight last night. In his first British television interview, Ev Williams, CEO and co-founder of Twitter, was interviewed by Kirsty Wark:
Speaking on Newsnight, Evan Williams says use of the social networking site has "exploded" in the UK with London being the top Twitter using city.
So if you haven't tried Twitter yet, I say go ahead and give it a try (it's free). However, be prepared to become another Twitter addict like the rest of us!
*Site is down We are determining the cause and will provide an update shortly. (via Twitter blog: http://status.twitter.com/ )

I thought that maybe you were on holiday!
ReplyDeleteTwitter is not for me so I'll stick to blogging. xx
LOL - I wish! I just needed to take a break from this blog. And in the meantime, I got hooked on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI realize Twitter isn't for everyone, although I dare say you may change your mind! I did. It's not just a place for chatting. It's also a good source for information about upcomng events, special offers, competitions, and useful links. And it's fun.
I got the impression that you had become a bit of Twitter addict! I felt myself going there too and then realized I was spending time on Twitter that I could use improving my blog and posting more often. So I had to make a decision to regulate my time on Twitter because I can get carried away and not do anything else. It's easier said than done. It can be quite addictive and people don't understand that until they do it.
ReplyDeleteLOL - you sure figured me out, Melissa! I have definitely become a Twitter addict and as you say people don't understand that until they get started on Twitter and it happens to them.
ReplyDeleteI think you are very wise to decide to regulate your time on Twitter. I will have to do the same before it takes over my life! I just might see if Twitter is working now and go on for a few minutes though...
Twitter obviously still has a lot of problems to sort out before it gets back to normal service after being hacked today. I can see that some people have been able to get on and tweet but I still can't. I can get on the site and I can see tweets but if I try to tweet or do a search, it times out. Very frustrating.
ReplyDeleteHaving become a Twitter addict myself (I just followed you) and feeling like I don't have much more to say that exceeds 140 characters I can understand you. I found you through Time Goes By where your blog is featured today
ReplyDeleteHello Claude - it's great hearing from another Twitter addict! And thank you for choosing to follow me. I was just on Twitter but when I tried to go back to look at my followers list, I couldn't access it. Twitter appears to be down again. :(
ReplyDeleteThank you for telling me my blog is featured at Time Goes By today.
It's actually featured for the week and you are in good company!
ReplyDeleteI saw that. I'm very flattered. Thanks again for telling about it.
