Michelle Obama: The inspiring First Lady

As much as I enjoy listening to President Obama's speeches and feeling proud that he is our president, I also enjoy listening to his wife and think she is equally inspiring. I was so impressed as I watched Michelle Obama on the news when she visited a school in London today. This is the report from BBC News: First Lady moved by school visit The world needs strong young women to pave the way for the future, an emotional US First Lady Michelle Obama has told schoolgirls in London. Mrs Obama was close to tears as she addressed the excited crowd at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School in Islington, north London. She told them: "We are counting on every single one of you to be the best that you can be." 1. I love this woman! The Mail is having a fit because she "hugged" the Queen. Please. Apart from the fact that it sounds like the Queen made the first move, the Obamas are not hicks. They will have been well prepped in what to do and what not to do. Michelle is a class act and speaks from the heart.

  2. It wasn't just The Mail that reported about the "hug" and made a big deal about it. It has been reported by just about all the newspapers online and TV news. As you point out, it looked like the Queen made the first move - and I think Michelle Obama was simply reciprocating the friendly gesture. They both looked very happy and relaxed and I bet the Queen is laughing about all the fuss being made over the incident.

I think Michelle Obama is a very classy lady and an ideal role model for young people especially young women. I love that she told the girls at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School that education, rather than their background, counted the most in life. She told them:
“If you want to know the reason why I am standing here, it’s because of education. I never cut class. I loved getting As, I liked being smart. I liked being on time. I thought being smart is cooler than anything in the world. You, too, with these values, can control your own destiny. You, too, can pave the way.”

Truly inspirational words and I'm sure they will never forget them!
