Favourite TV character

My favourite TV character is Jessica Fletcher (played by Angela Lansbury) from the show, Murder, She Wrote. I love the fact that the character is a strong, independent, older woman. And as well as being very intelligent and feisty, the character is always kind and polite. I also love the fictional town of Cabot Cove, a cozy coastal town in Maine, where the character lives. The theme tune is wonderful too: Murder, She Wrote - Opening Titles Jessica Fletcher is my all-time favourite TV character but there are many other TV characters that I like a lot so here's my (long) list of runners-up: Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) and Dr. Niles Crane (David Hyde Pierce) in Frasier Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen) in Foyle's War Jim Rockford (James Garner) in The Rockford Files MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) in MacGyver Lieutenant Columbo (Peter Falk) in Columbo Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) in Monk Quincy (Jack Klugman) in Quincy, M.E. All the characters in West Wing particularly C.J. Cregg (Allison Janney) All the characters in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air All the characters in Malcolm in the Middle Tom (Richard Briers) and Barbara (Felicity Kendal) in The Good Life The Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer, Constable Benton Fraser (Paul Gross) in Due South. I love the character plus there's the phwoar factor! Okay, it's your turn. Which TV character is your favourite?

  1. I used to watch Murder, She Wrote years ago and I enjoyed it too! I also watched Due South regularly--the scene I still remember is when Fraser was in a school classroom answering questions about Canada...

Well, I haven't really given thought to individual characters before! Here are my favourites that come to mind now:

    Daniel Mead, from Ugly Betty
    Katherine Mayfair, from Desperate Housewives
Jim Fenner, Shell Dockley, and Helen Stewart, from Bad Girls
Catherine Willows, from CSI (Las Vegas)

  2. Hi Daniel, I like your choices too. I'm not familiar with Bad Girls but I'm a fan of the other shows you mentioned. I like Daniel from Ugly Betty too and I like Betty's dad. Katherine is a fascnating character in Desperate Housewives! That's another one of my fave shows. Did you know the actress who portrays her was originally offered the part of Bree but turned it down? And I love CSI - I agree that Catherine is a good character. Mind you, I think they all are in that show.

  3. I like most of the characters you list, which I see are mostly American not surprisingly.
As a keen fan of traditional TV crime series I like Miss Marple(Joan Hickson), Poirot (David Suchet) and DCI Tom Barnaby (John Nettle) in Midsummer Murders for not being a maverick policeman.
Then there's one of my all time favourite TV series The Avengers with John Steed (Patrick Macnee)and Emma Peel(Diana Rigg).
    .
No doubt I'll be back with more! xx

  4. Yes, after I posted my list, I noticed the characters were from mostly American shows as you say, flighty! There are just a couple British ones and one Canadian show. I like your choices too. In fact, I am a fan of those characters too! In particular I think David Suchet as Poirot is brilliant.

I know what you mean. Once I started making a list of favourite characters, I kept thinking of others I like too.
