How many trick-or-treaters did you get?

We had a very quiet Halloween. We had a total of seven trick-or-treaters come to our door. Three little ones (very sweet!) arrived about 5:30 and four slightly older children (about 8 or 9 years old) arrived about an hour later. So how many trick-or-treaters did you get?

  1. We had a couple, then we went out trick-or-treating. :) We have loads of candy now.

  2. Hi Lisa, we have loads of sweets (candy) too but not from trick-or-treating (my sons are too old - the eldest is nearly 20 and away at university and my youngest is 17) but because we bought a lot of sweets to give at the door. I like to be prepared even though I didn't expect a lot of kids (I've lived here long enough to know that Halloween isn't as popular in England as in the USA) but I certainly expected more than seven children!

  3. Nobody knocked on my door. This is the number I hoped for. Sorry, Maureen, but I don't like the way Halloween and all its attendant nonsense has been foisted on us by the commercial interests just looking for yet another way to make money out of us. Also, it bothers me that children should be encouraged to knock on doors and say, in effect: "Give us something or we will do something nasty to you."
Interestingly, I enjoy Halloween when I am staying with my daughter and children in San Diego CA - there is seems to be, well, where it ought to be.

  4. Everyone is entitled to their views. There are a lot of people who don't like Halloween. I know it's not very popular in England. I don't think it ever will be. There seems to be too many young people (teenagers, in particular) that use the day as an excuse for yobbish behavior. They are the ones who give the day a bad name.

I happen to think it's a fun tradition but perhaps it is just too American to be appreciated in Britain.
